BROOKLYN, NY - July 19, 2015 - It was Impractical Jokers night at MCU Park, so it was appropriate that Brooklyn was able to win in a laugher, downing the Vermont Lake Monsters by the score of 7-1 on Sunday evening. Gaby Almonte (3-2) got the win after tossing 6.1 dominant frames, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five.

Brooklyn wasted no time getting on the scoreboard on Sunday evening. Vinny Siena started a one-out rally in the bottom of the first with a line drive single. The Cyclones second baseman advanced to second on a balk and then stole third base when Jeff Diehl worked a two-out walk that put runners on the corners. David Thompson took advantage of the scoring opportunity with a hard hit liner grounder down the left field line that ricocheted off of Mikey White's glove at third base, allowing Siena to score the game's first run and giving Brooklyn a 1-0 edge after one.

The Cyclones would build on their lead in their next turn at bat, after Manuel Hilario was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the second. Tucker Tharp then worked a one-out walk to put a pair of 'Clones aboard. Vinny Siena was next to bat and he roped a single to the opposite field, scoring Hilario to make it 2-0 Cyclones. On the play, Tharp was caught off second base on an old-fashioned hidden ball trick, for out number two as Brooklyn failed to push across another run in the frame.

After matching zeroes in the third and fourth innings, Brooklyn added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Michael Bernal started the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Lake Monster shortstop Mikey White. After Jeff Diehl and Thompson failed to advance the runner, Hengelbert Rojas came through with a two-out RBI single that plated Bernal and pushed the Brookyln advantage to 3-0.

That would prove to be more than enough, as Brooklyn starter Gaby Almonte (3-2) had another impressive outing for the Cyclones. The righthander cruised through 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball before running into trouble in the top of the seventh. Mikey White started the frame with a double and would eventually score on a one-out single from Nick Collins that sliced the Brooklyn lead to 3-1, and chased Almonte from the game. Carlos Valdez was summoned from the bullpen and quickly got Skye Bolt to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.

The Cyclones responded quickly, scoring a pair in the bottom of the frame courtesy of a two-RBI single from Rojas, who finished the game 2-for-3. Brooklyn rounded out the scoring in the eight courtesy of a Michael Bernal two-RBI double that made the final score 7-1.

The Cyclones will look to take the rubber game of the series tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM when RHP Andrew Church (1-0) takes the mound. Tickets start at just $10 and are on sale now by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park Box office or at BrooklynCyclones.com. It's your last chance to see the Cyclones for more than a week, as Brooklyn heads out on a six-game road trip starting Tuesday in West Virginia.
