Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - BlueClaws RHP Luke Leftwich has been added to the Northern Division roster for the 57th South Atlantic League All-Star Game, which will be played Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Kentucky.
Leftwich joins 2B Josh Tobias and OF Jose Pujols as BlueClaws All-Stars, with Pujols the starting right fielder for the Northern Division All-Stars.
Leftwich, who turned 22 on June 9th, is 6-3 with a 2.15 ERA (through games of June 17th). He ranks fourth the league in ERA and leads the league with 80 strikeouts and is first among league starters with 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
He has thrown at least seven innings on three occasions this year, including eight scoreless innings against Lexington at FirstEnergy Park on June 5th. Leftwich also has three double-digit strikeout games, including 11 strikeouts on two occasions; the BlueClaws had only one double-digit strikeout game since the beginning of the 2013 season prior to his three this year.
Drafted in the seventh round last year from Wofford College, Leftwich spent last year with Williamsport in the NY-Penn League, going 2-2 with a 2.76 ERA.
Leftwich's addition means the BlueClaws have now had 56 players named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game in their 15 year history.
The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore's top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in all 15 years of existence.
