Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Kannapolis Intimidators infielder Danny Mendick has been added to the Northern Division roster for the 57th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, SAL president Eric Krupa announced Friday morning. Mendick will serve as a utility infielder in the mid-summer showcase scheduled for June 21, 2016, at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Ky., home of the Lexington Legends.
Mendick, 22, joins outfielder Landon Lassiter, pitcher Zach Thompson, and catcher Seby Zavala as the four Kannapolis Mid-Season All-Stars on the Northern Division squad. Pitcher Tanner Banks, who was originally named to the SAL All-Star Game, earned a promotion to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem and therefore will not participate in the exhibition. The Intimidators will send four All-Stars to Lexington, the most All-Star representatives for Kannapolis since the team sent four players to the 2012 game in Charleston, S.C.
Mendick has appeared in 46 games with Kannapolis through Wednesday's games, batting .298 (51-171) with 12 doubles, a home run, 18 RBI, and 18 runs scored while posting a .375 on-base percentage. He has played second base, shortstop, and third base with regularity for Kannapolis and has a pair of 10-game hitting streaks in the SAL this season, the first Intimidators hitter with multiple 10-game hitting streaks in a single season since Adam Engel in 2014. Mendick ranks 15th in the SAL in batting average and tied for 11th in on-base percentage through Wednesday. The White Sox selected Mendick in the 22nd round of the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where he was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Second Team, the NEIBA Second Team and America East First-Team All-Conference as a senior. During his professional debut in 2015 with the Arizona League White Sox, Mendick tied for the team lead in walks (20) and ranked second in runs (34) and home runs (6) while batting .256 (46-180) in 49 games for the eventual league champions.
The 57th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game takes place at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Ky., home of the SAL's Lexington Legends, on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:05 p.m. For ticket and All-Star promotional events, please visit LexingtonLegends.com.
