The Augusta GreenJackets took a four-run lead after three innings, and then held on for a 6-5 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night in Augusta.

The Legends took the lead in the top of the first inning on a leadoff triple by Roman Collins, who had four hits in the game, and a single by D.J. Burt. But Augusta responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.

With one out, consecutive singles by Jalen Miller, Miguel Gomez and Dylan Davis produced the tying run. After Matt Winn was called out on strikes, a single by Skyler Ewing scored Gomez, and a base hit by Junior Arias brought Davis home, giving the GreenJackets a 3-1 lead.

Augusta scored two more runs in the third. Gomez led off with a single, and Ewing drew a two-out walk. Arias reached on an error by third baseman Jecksson Flores, leaving the bases loaded. An infield hit by Johneshwy Fargas scored Gomez, and Ewing came home on second baseman Burt's throwing error.

A three-run rally in the fifth brought the Legends to within one run. Marten Gasparini led off with a bunt single. Travis Maezes followed with a single, and Flores was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Collins singled off the glove of Ewing, the first baseman, scoring Gasparini. Burt also singled, scoring Maezes. After Samir Duenez grounded into a force play at the plate, Collins scored on a sacrifice fly by Xavier Fernandez.

The GreenJackets scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, and the Legends added one in the eighth on an RBI single by Gasparini, leaving the score at 6-5.

Augusta starter Domenic Mazza (1-0) got the win, though he allowed 10 hits and four runs in six innings. Ryan Koziol worked the seventh and eighth, allowing one run, and Heath Slatton picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth.

Emilio Ogando, (4-7) the Lexington starter, was the losing pitcher.

Augusta has taken one-run wins in each of the first two games of the four-game series, which continues Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
