Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush offense awaked on Friday night, earning a 6-3 win over the Evansville IceMen at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Rush received three-point efforts from Derek LeBlanc, Jamie Carroll and Ryan Menei. The Rush victory is the third in as many meetings with the IceMen and also snaps a four-game losing streak. The Rush and IceMen clash again tomorrow at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available.
The Rush penalty kill was on display first, stifling 1:57 worth of 5-on-3 time for the IceMen in the opening five minutes. The kill helped get the offense going, as Jamie Carroll scored the game's first goal, serving as his first point in a Rush uniform. Carroll struck 7:16 into the contest when he circled the net, and from the bottom of the left circle, slid a shot through the pads of Matt Lundin. The IceMen answered back with a powerplay goal from Mario Larocque at the 13:11 mark. The game remained tied until a pair of last-minute goals gave Rapid City momentum heading into the second period. Konrad Reeder regained the lead for the Rush when he stuffed home a wraparound at 19:12. Just 23 seconds later, Josh Beaulieu's saucer pass from the right corner found Derek LeBlanc at the back post for the redirection home, making it 3-1.
Rapid City took a 4-1 lead by scoring the fasted goal to start a period in team history. Just ten seconds into the middle frame, an outlet attempt by the IceMen was stifled by Ryan Menei at the right half wall. The leading scorer fired a wrist shot that was deflected home by Scott Wray for the lone goal of the period. After 40 minutes of play, the Rush held 4-1 lead and 28-10 shot advantage.
The IceMen fought back with a pair of powerplay goal to begin the third period, cutting the Rush lead down to one. The first tally came at 7:17 from Jeff Nelson who backhanded home a rebound from the right side of the net to make it 4-2. Then Mario Larocque picked his third point of the evening when he blasted a slapshot on net that was deflected in by Damian Surma for his team-leading 20th goal. The Rush bounced back at 11:01 on LeBlanc's second of the evening, a play assisted by Carroll. Finally, Josh Beaulieu scored his second shorthanded goal of the season, bringing the game to its 6-3 final.
Tim Boron moved to a perfect 4-0-0 after making 21 saves on 24 shots while Matt Lundin stopped 34 shots but fell to 9-14-4.
