Mallards Rally Past Colorado 3-2
January 21, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (January 21, 2011)- David Brown made 38 saves and Tyler Kindle and Zac Pearson scored less than a minute apart early in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit and propel the host Quad City Mallards to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Eagles Friday night. In the wake of the victory, the Mallards are now tied for first place in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference with the Missouri Mavericks.
Kindle's drive from the left wing boards caromed in off Colorado goaltender Kyle Jones's stick and tied the game at two at 4:31 of the third. 51 seconds later, Pearson's breakaway goal gave the Mallards a lead they would not relinquish.
That the Mallards entered the third period trailing by just one goal was due in good part to the efforts of Brown, who stopped 32 shots over just the first two periods.
Brown was beaten for the first time when Adam Hogg buried Steve Haddon's goalmouth feed from close range to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 13:01 of the first period. Eric Giosa responded for the Mallards by driving the tying goal in off Jones's glove from the high slot at 16:20 of the first.
The Eagles retook the lead when Riley Nelson steered in Kevin Ulanski's centering pass at 16:12 of the second period, but the Mallards would reclaim the momentum in the third period and never let go.
The Mallards return to action at home tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Eagles. The first 1,000 fans ages 18 and over through the doors for Saturday's game will receive free Mallards adult white replica jerseys courtesy of WLLR and CBS 4.
