January 21, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 21)- The Brahmas were looking for their fourth consecutive win; the Mudbugs were looking to snap their five game losing streak. With each team vying for a win tonight, and major repercussions for both, the game was the most physical and aggressive between the two teams this season with the Brahmas coming out on top with a thrilling 4-3 win.
The tone of the game was set early when only one second into the first period, the Brahmas Mike Sgroi and the Mudbugs James DeLory each received major penalties for fighting. The Mudbugs took the early lead when Shawn Limpright got one behind Brahmas goaltender Wayne Savage. Texas rebounded with a goal of their own, when Tyler Allen beat Brian Foster at the net to tie it up. The newest face to the Brahmas, Darryl McArthur, was able to knock one in for a shorthanded goal and a 2-1 lead after one period.
In the second period both teams continued the aggressive play which included an ejection to Brahmas forward Mick Lawrence. A power play by the Brahmas saw Calin Wild take advantage as he was able to give the Brahmas a shorthanded goal and a two tally lead at the 9:58 mark. Less than two minutes after Wild ¬â¢s goal, Mudbugs Jamie Milam was able to sneak by Savage and cut the Brahmas two goal lead in half.
With several players causing congestion in front of the Brahmas net, Milam was able to get one past Savage early in the third period and tied the game once again. With the Brahmas facing overtime for the second time in as many games, Chad Woollard kept his goal streak alive and shot one past Foster for the game winning goal.
Woollard has now extended his goal streak to seven games and his point streak to eleven games. Savage had 28 saves of 31 shots on goal. Woollard ¬â¢s goal streak tied a CHL high for the season. The Brahmas now lead the season series 4-2.
The Brahmas next home game is Saturday, January 22 when they complete their three game homestand at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:30 PM versus the Tulsa Oilers. For ticket information please contact the Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
