April 2, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Ontario, California - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that leading scorer Mitch Wahl has returned to the team and will be in the lineup tonight for game one of the playoffs in Ontario.
In addition, defenseman James Martin and forward Ryan Howse have been assigned by Calgary from Abbotsford to Utah and both will be in the lineup tonight as well.
Despite having played in only 45 of 72 Utah games and having not played since February 18, Wahl, 23, was still Utah's leading scorer in 2012-2013 with 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points in 45 games. He was traded by Calgary to Philadelphia on February 25, but has been reassigned back to Utah by the Flyers for the playoffs. He represented Utah in the ECHL All-Star game this year as well. Wahl, from Seal Beach, California in Orange County, will be playing close to home the next two nights. He was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL entry draft by Calgary and had 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points in 38 games last year with Utah.
Martin, 21, appeared in 44 games with Utah this year and had three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. He was recalled to Abbotsford on March 11, where he appeared in five games. He played all season with Abbotsford last year and advanced to the Memorial Cup with Koontenay in 2010-11 during his final season as an amateur.
Howse, 21, played in 20 games this year and had two goals and seven assists for 9 points. He joined Utah during their four-game road trip to California March 13-17 and had one goal and one assist over the final two games. He was selected by Calgary in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in 17 games with Abbotsford this year.
