Reimer Named MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J.- Former ECHL and current Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.

The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray sold more than 500 game-worn jerseys in 2011-12 and has sold more than 6,500 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.

The 25-year-old was 6-1-4 with one shutout, a 2.57 goals-against average and a save percentage of .918 in 11 appearances during the month. Reimer made a season-high 39 saves in a 5-4 win against Ottawa on March 6 and followed that up three nights later wiht 37 saves in a 5-4 shootout loss against Pittsburgh. He ended the month making 31 saves to record his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 win at Ottawa on March 30.

Selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Reimer has appeared in 22 games this season posting a record of 13-4-4 with two shutouts, a 2.52 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.

A native of Morweena, Manitoba, Reimer was 10-7-3 with a 3.30 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904 in 22 games with Reading and 6-0-0 with two shutouts, a 1.32 goals-against average and a save percentage of .961 in six games with South Carolina during the 2008-09 season. He backstopped the Stingrays to the 2009 Kelly Cup title, and was named Most Valuable Player of the Kelly Cup Playoffs, going 4-3 with one shutout, a 2.17 goals-against average and a save percentage of .929 in eight appearances.

There have been 507 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 17 who have made their debut in 2012-13. The ECHL has had 315 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 251 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last eight seasons for an average of more than 31 per year.
