Stingrays vs. Gladiators - By the Numbers

The Stingrays finished the 2012-13 regular season third in the South Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 38-26-5-3 (84 pts). The Gladiators ended the season with a 43-26-2-1 record (89 pts), are back-to-back South Division Champions and finished third overall in the Eastern Conference.

During the 2012-13 regular season, the Stingrays held a 6-6-2-0 record in 14 meetings against Gwinnett (4-1-2 at home, 2-5-0 on the road) and are 57-44-13 all-time. Seven of the 14 games between the two teams this season were decided by one goal. The series also featured four shutouts.

Forwards Hunter Bishop (five goals, four assists) and Tyler McNeely (three goals, six assists) led the Stingrays against the Gladiators with nine points each and goaltender Ryan Zapolski held a 4-4-1 record with a 1.44 goals-against average and .954 save percentage.

The Stingrays enter the playoffs for the 19th time in 20 seasons, an ECHL record. This postseason marks the 12th for the Gwinnett/Mobile organization (including time as the Mobile Mystics, 1995-2002) and eighth as the Gladiators.

In 19 postseason appearances, the Stingrays hold an 84-73 all-time playoff record and are 19-19 in overtime contests. The Gladiators stand with a 30-29 all-time postseason record and are 6-11 in overtime.

This is the fifth postseason series between the two teams with the Stingrays holding a 3-1 all-time series record and 9-8 all-time head-to-head postseason record.

Last season, the #7 Stingrays defeated the #2 Gladiators in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series 3-1 including a 4-3 quadruple overtime victory in Game 3, the second-longest game in ECHL history. The contest lasted 124:19 and fell 1:51 short of tying the record. The Stingrays eventually fell in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Kalamazoo Wings 4-1.

Stingrays in the Postseason Record Books

The Stingrays are tied for first in the ECHL with three Kelly Cup championships (1997, 2001, 2009)

The Stingrays lead the ECHL all-time with 157 postseason games played, 84 playoff wins, most home playoff wins (53), and most playoff wins in one year (16, 2009). The Stingrays are second in the ECHL with 31 road playoff wins behind the Alaska Aces (38).

The Stingrays also lead the ECHL with the most postseason losses (73), home losses (30) and road losses (43).

In 2001, the Stingrays tied for the fourth longest playoff winning streak at eight games. (Tied with Reading, Peoria, Louisiana and Toledo). The Richmond Renegades hold the longest winning streak at 11 games in 1999.
