Florida's Roy Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mathieu Roy of the Florida Everblades is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 25-30.

The 26-year-old scored five goals and added five assists for 12 points last week as the Everblades went 4-0-0 against in-state rival Orlando in the final week of the regular season.

Roy tallied five points (2g-3a) in an 8-3 win on Tuesday, had two points (1g-1a) in a 3-1 on Wednesday, recorded a pair of assists in a 5-1 win on Friday and had three points (2g-1a) in a 6-3 win on Saturday.

A native of Amos, Quebec, Roy led the ECHL this season with 38 goals and 89 points, becoming the first player to lead the league in both categories since 2008-09, and last week, was named to the All-ECHL First Team .

Roy has 281 points (123g-158a) in 393 career ECHL games with Pensacola and Florida and he has added 17 points (9g-8a) in 31 Kelly Cup Playoffs games. Roy captained the Everblades to their first-ever Kelly Cup title in 2012.

On behalf of Mathieu Roy, a case of pucks will be donated to a Florida youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 27,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
