Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces, winners of three straight Brabham Cup Titles, have released their 2013 playoff roster, Head Coach Rob Murray announced on Tuesday. Per ECHL guidelines, playoff rosters consist of a maximum of 23 Players - a 20-man active roster and a three-man reserve list. The Aces submitted 23 names, filling the maximum number of spots. The Aces begin their quest for a third Kelly Cup Championship this Friday, April 5and Saturday, April 6 when they host the San Francisco Bulls in Games 1 & 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
The Aces playoff roster includes 12 forwards, nine defensemen, and two goaltenders.
The forwards are: Spencer Bennett, Chris Clackson, Tim Hall, Zach Harrison, Alex Hudson, Bobby Hughes, Alex Imbeault, Nick Mazzolini, Tommy Mele, Garry Nunn, Andy Taranto, and Evan Trupp.
The defensemen are: Mike Baran, B.J. Crum, Sean Curry, Brad Gorham, Kane Lafranchise, Dustin Molle, Brett Ponich, Corey Syvret, and Steve Ward.
The goaltenders are: Gerald Coleman and Mark Guggenberger
In a related move, the Aces placed forward Jordan Kremyr on the non-active injury list. Kremyr, who suffered a broken wrist in the second to last game of the season on Friday night in Ontario, remains under contract with the Aces, but is ineligible for the postseason. Omitted from the roster was Alaska's All-Star rookie defenseman, William Wrenn, who has remained on loan to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League since mid-February.
Throughout a season that saw a record number of Aces man-games lost to injury and an NHL Lockout responsible for league-wide roster shuffling, 13 of the 23 players on the Aces playoff roster have been with Alaska since opening-day. Eight of the listed players have never played in a pro playoff game entering this postseason. Four players on the roster were also on the Aces 2011 playoff roster which won the Kelly Cup that season. They are Coleman, Nunn, Lafranchise, and Ward. Harrison was also on the 2011 team, but was not eligible for the postseason due to injury.
The 23-man roster consists of 20 active players and three on reserve. Just as in the regular season, ECHL teams can only dress 18 players per game. The three players placed on reserve were Mazzolini, Imbeault, and Gorham. The reserve list can be changed at any time, and Alaska's Game One lineup for their opening round series has not been announced yet.
As the top seed in the Western Conference, the Aces host the eighth-seeded San Francisco Bulls in the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Aces begin the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the expansion Bulls this weekend. Games 1 & 2 are at Sullivan Arena on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at 7:15pm AKT. Tickets are now available at the Aces office, Sullivan Arena Box Office, Fred Meyer locations or online at www.ticketmaster.com. All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD.
