
Lazarev earns ECHL Player of the Week honor

WHEELING, WV â The Wheeling Nailers announce today that forward Evgeny Lazarev is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for January 31-February 6.
The 24-year-old Lazarev scored six points (3g-3a) and helped the Nailers go 3-0-0 for the week, extending its winning streak to six games. After scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-3 overtime win against San Diego on Friday, the 6-1 and 208-pound Lazarev scored the first two goals of the game and had an assist on the last goal in a 5-2 win at Trenton on Saturday. He closed out the week with two assists, including one on the game winner, of a 3-0 win against San Diego on Sunday.
Selected in the third round (79th overall) by Colorado in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Lazarev started the season with Johnstown, scoring three points (1g-2a) in five games before he joined the Nailers on November 26th. In 30 games with Wheeling, he has 11 goals and 22 points, tying him for second on the team in goals and fifth on the team in scoring. Currently on a five-game scoring streak (5g-3a), Evgeny has a plus-minus rating of +8 with the Nailers which ranks second.
The Kharkov, Ukraine native played four seasons with Hershey of the American Hockey League scoring 94 points (36g-58a) in 229 games. He began his ECHL career with the Pensacola Ice Pilots in 1999-2000, scoring eight points (3g-5a) in 11games.
On behalf of Evgeny Lazarev, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 10,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01.
