CHARLOTTE, NC – Maybe it was the 7-1 beating the Checkers took this past Saturday. Maybe it was the infusion of six players from Hartford. But for whatever reason, the Checkers came out tonight with something to prove and clobbered the Pee Dee Pride 7-3 at Cricket Arena.

The Checkers came out strong in the first with two goals, both from Dusty Jamieson. Jamieson's first goal came off a pass from goaltender, Alex Westlund at 5:01 of the period. 1:43 later, Jamieson, taking a shot from the blue line, scored his second goal, giving him 15 goals of the season.

Only 1:11 into the second period, Pride's Greg Johnson scored to put Pee Dee on the board. However, Charlotte answered with three more goals, two from Mike Wirll and one from Mike Harder. The two goals put Wirll into double digits with 11 goals on the season. Charlotte now has five players in the double digits.

Steve MacIntyre stood out in the third, taking a pass from Wirll to put the Checkers up 7-2. This goal earned him a Gordie Howe hat trick.

For the game, MacIntyre had a goal, an assist, and a fight.

"He [MacIntyre] is life and energy to this team. He's a good guy. He works hard. He's come far. He is a real success story," comments Checkers Head Coach Derek Wilkinson.

This game is the second of ten games in 14 days for the Checkers. They remain the East Division leader with 56 points.

On Friday, February 11th the Checkers will host the 2005 Special Olympics Southeast Region Ice Skating Competition Opening Ceremonies during the first intermission of the Checkers game versus the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:00 PM.
