CHARLOTTE, NC - The Pee Dee Pride lost their ninth consecutive game on Wednesday night, falling to the Charlotte Checkers 7-3 at Cricket Arena.

The Pride dominated the first five minutes of the first period, getting six quick shots in on Charlotte goaltender Alex Westlund, but were unable to get anything into the net.

Just after Gregg Johnson's deflection missed going in on the near post, the Checkers skated back the other way, and Dusty Jamieson was able to beat Sebastien Laplante with a quick wrist shot at 5:01 for his 14th of the season.

Charlotte doubled its lead just 1:43 later. Mike Harder won a face off in the left-wing cirlcle of the Pride zone back to David Liffiton at the left point. Liffiton's shot was deflected at the hash marks by Jamieson for his second goal of the night.

The Pride cut the deficit in half just 1:11 into the second period. Gregg Johnson stole the puck off of the stick of Charlotte defenseman Ryan Glenn, and beat Westlund with a quick back-hand shot from the right-wing circle.

But, the Checkers came right back and scored a pair of goals just 53 seconds apart to take a 4-1 lead.

Mike Wirll made a great play to give the Checkers the two-goal advantage back at the 3:31 mark. Wirll gathered in a loose puck behind the Pride net and made a nifty move at the far post and was able to tuck the puck just inside the post for his 10th goal of the season.

Then, at 4:23, Mike Harder put his own rebound past a sprawled out Laplante for his 12th tally of the season. After Harder's goal, Laplante was replaced in goal by Nick Boucher.

Wirll added his second of the game at 14:20 of the second period, as the Checkers won the face off, and Wirll skated to the front of the net and wristed a shot over a fallen Boucher.

The Checkers made it 6-1 with a power-play goal 9:26 into the third period. Harder centered pass for Dawe at the hash marks, and he beat Boucher with a quick wrister for his seventh tally of the season.

Jeff Szwez made it 6-2 at 13:30, tipping in a cross-ice pass from Kyle Kidney for his 16th goal of the season.

Steve MacIntyre got the goal right back for Charlotte, beating Boucher low to the glove side from the left-wing circle at 14:49.

Jan Vodrazka set the final beating Westlund with a blast from the left wing circle at 17:31.
