SAN DIEGO â After a grueling seven-game road trip, the San Diego Gulls look for some home cooking, not to mention inch up the standings, when they take on the Bakersfield Condors tonight at the Sports Arena.
SERIES HISTORY: The Gulls and Condors have met five times so far this season with Bakersfield holding a 4-0-1 series edge. The two teams will clash three more times during the regular season. San Diego and Bakersfield met 10 times last season with the Gulls holding a 9-1-0 edge.

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting an 86-18-7 record against its West Division rival. The Gulls are 46-6-4 all-time against the Condors at the Sports Arena.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 2 VS. BAK): Goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji stopped all four San Diego attempts in the shootout, as his Condors rallied for a 3-2 victory. Brian Gornick gave the Gulls an early 1-0 lead before Bakersfield's Todd Alexander tied it later in the first period. That's how it stayed until Sean O'Connor lit the lamp seven minutes into the third period, regaining the Gulls' one-goal cushion. Lars Peder Nagel tied the game with just under five minutes left in regulation and Fukufuji did the rest in the shootout.
GULLS UPDATE: The Gulls (23-16-5) enter the day fifth in the West Division, four points behind the fourth-place Fresno Falcons and five points back of the third-place Alaska Aces... San Diego, however, has played two fewer games than Fresno and has one game in hand on Alaska... The Gulls were 2-4-1 on their just-completed seven-game road trip, all of which were against North Division teams... On the trek, they were out-shot 256-158 and out-scored 22-12 (with two shutouts)... After winning a season-high six straight games, the Blue and Orange are winless in six of their last eight (2-5-1)...
OTHER NOTES: San Diego is 14-4-2 at home, outscoring its opponents 79-56... Bakersfield is one of only two West Division teams to have beaten the Gulls in regulation at the Sports Arena (The other is Alaska)... The other two teams to win in regulation on San Diego's home ice is the Peoria Rivermen and Pensacola Ice Pilots... Max Birbraer leads the club with 32 points (11g, 21a). His 21 assists is also a team high... The Gulls have five players that have scored 10+ goals (Birbraer â 11, Gornick â 16, O'Connor â 16, Guillaume Fournier â 11 and Sylvain Deschatelets â 10)... San Diego has the third-best power play in the ECHL (19.0 percent), but has the third-worst penalty killing in the league (79.1 percent)... Five of the Gulls' next six games will be at home...
BAKERSFIELD UPDATE: Bakersfield (27-11-8) begins the day second in the West with 62 points, two behind the first-place Long Beach Ice Dogs... The Condors, however, have played one fewer game than Long Beach... Bakersfield is unbeaten in 15 of its last 17 games (11-2-4)... Fukufuji is 3-0-1 against the Gulls so far this season, with a 1.67 goals-against average and .945 save percentage... The Condors have scored 35 of their 78 goals on the road in the third period...
TRANSACTIONS: Nikita Korovkin was returned from the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch on Sunday... Scott Borders was placed on the seven-day injured list Saturday with a quad contusion... Grady Moore was acquired Friday from the Dayton Bombers in a three-team deal with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies... Evgueni Nourislamov, Sean Murphy and Wes Rypien all remain on the 30-day injured list... Murphy, however, should be activated this week...
