Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons beat the Bakersfield Condors with a score of 3-2 in a shootout at Save Mart Center. Shaun Sutter and Charles Simard both scored in the shootout, while Fresno goaltender Jamie Hodson denied all four attempts by the Condors.
The Condors opened the scoring at 6:59 in the first period when Fresno goaltender Hodson fumbled the puck off his glove into the net, giving Guy Dupuis a short handed, unassisted goal. Sutter quickly responded with a power play goal at 8:00, but Bakersfield took the lead again at 14:46 with a goal by Brad Mehalko, ending the first period with a score of 2-1.
After a scoreless second period, the Falcons aggressively began the third period on a power play. At only 47 seconds into the period, Dan Tessier scored his 21st goal of the season, slipping the puck past Condors' goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji from behind the net. The battle continued with the score tied at two until the end of the third, bringing the game into overtime.
The scoreless trend continued into overtime, sending the game into a shootout. Hodson defended his goal flawlessly, while both Sutter and Simard were able to rocket shots past Fukufuji, clinching the victory for the Falcons.
This win is the Falcons' second home victory over the Condors in a shootout this season, and brings their overall record to 25-16-5. The Falcons will now travel to Bakersfield to play the Condors once again this Friday.
The Falcons' next home game will be Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., during which the Falcons will be hosting Military Appreciation Night. The players will be sporting patriotic jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the American Red Cross. Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497), or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
