
Lavastida Homers Twice, Allen Fans Nine to Beat Loons

(Midland, MI) - Bryan Lavastida hit a pair of solo home runs and starting pitcher Logan Allen struck out nine men over six shutout innings to lead the Lake County Captains (25-20) to a 7-1 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (22-23) on Thursday night at Dow Diamond.
Lavastida left the yard for the first time in the second inning. Leading off the frame, Lavastida blasted the first pitch over the left field wall for a solo shot to give the Captains a 1-0 lead
The Captains added to their lead in the sixth inning. José Tena started the rally with a one-out single through the left side. Lavastida then singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. After a ground out moved the runners up to second and third, Raynel Delgado pulled a double to right field that scored both men. Quentin Holmes then brought Delgado home with a single to left that put the Captains up, 4-0.
Brayan Rocchio added another run for Lake County in the seventh. Will Brennan reached with two outs on an infield single and Rocchio ripped a double to left field that plated Brennan to extend the Captains' lead to 5-0.
Lavastida went deep again in the eighth. Once again leading off, Lavastida belted a 2-1 pitch over the left-centerfield fence to give the Captains a 6-0 lead.
Leonel Valera put the Loons on the board in the bottom of the eighth. WIth one out and nobody on, Valera homered to left-center field against Captains reliever Nathan Ocker to cut the Captains' advantage to 6-1.
Lake County got that run right back in the top of the ninth. After Austen Wade worked a leadoff walk, Joe Donovan doubled to center field to plate Wade and push the Captains' lead back to six runs at 7-1.
Captains starter Logan Allen (4-0) held the Loons scoreless over six innings and struck out a career-high nine batters to earn the win. The southpaw surrendered just four hits and walked one.
Loons starter Clayton Beeter (0-3) took the loss. The right-hander allowed one run - Lavastida's first home run - over 1.2 innings. Beeter struck out three, walked one and surrendered two hits.
Tanner Burns gets the ball in game four for the Captains on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Dow Diamond.
