
Late Inning Run Lifts Akron Past Late Charging Harrisburg 7-6

Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Akron RubberDucks use an eighth inning double to survive a late game comeback and beat the Harrisburg Senators 7-6 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After the Senators struck for six to tie the game in seventh, the RubberDucks answered back in the bottom of the eighth. Petey Halpin singled with one out before advancing to second on an Angel Martinez groundout. Julian Escobedo continued his hot hitting by lining a double off the wall in right to score Halpin to put Akron ahead 7-6.
Mound Presence
Tanner Burns got the start for Akron and was dominant. Burns did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and in total tossed four and two-thirds scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out seven. Mason Hickman followed with an inning and a third scoreless. Trey Benton allowed six runs over two-thirds of an inning. Shane McCarthy worked an inning and a third scoreless to earn the win. Cade Smith struck out the side in the ninth to pick up the save.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks offense was off and running early. Joe Naranjo singled home Halpin in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 Akron. In the second inning, Halpin doubled home Aaron Bracho before a Martinez groundout scored Gabriel Rodriguez to make it 3-0 RubberDucks. Martinez kept the scoring going in the fourth when he singled home Michael Berglund to make it 4-0 Akron. The RubberDucks stretched the lead once again in the fifth inning on Naranjo's first Double-A home run over the Cutwater Tiki Terrace to make it 5-0 RubberDucks. Martinez added to his RBI collection in the sixth when he worked a walk with the bases loaded to make it 6-0 Akron.
Notebook
The victory by McCarthy was his first since the 2019 season...Martinez's three RBI game was his third multi-RBI game of the season, which leads the team...Smith has now converted 13 consecutive save chances dating back to Aug. 3, 2022...Game Time: 2:49...Attendance: 1,188.
