(O'Fallon, Missouri) - A home run from Evansville's Vinnie Scarduzio tied the game in the top of the eighth inning but a home run from River City's Danny Sawyer in the bottom half proved to be the game winner in a 3-2 Rascals victory.

River City jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Evansville starting pitcher Kyle Barry. Outfielders Stephen Holdren and Chad Maddox both produced RBI singles but Barry left the bases loaded to keep the Otters within a pair of runs.

Evansville rallied a few times over the middle innings against right-hander Zack Sterner but failed to score until the seventh inning. Center fielder Alex Foltz led off that frame with a double to left-center field and came around to score later that inning on an RBI groundout from Greg Alexander.

Down 2-1, the Otters then tied the game in the next inning on Scarduzio's blast to left field only to see the Rascals regain the lead in the bottom half on a home run from Danny Sawyer.

Designated hitter Jared Jordan then led off the ninth inning with a walk but was stranded by reliever Kirkland Rivers as he held on to the 3-2 lead for the win.

River City is now 15-8 following the win as Evansville drops to 5-18 this season.

Evansville's Kyle Barry allowed just two runs in six innings as the right-hander did not factor into the decision. Fellow newcomers Alex Foltz and infielder Ryan Still both had two hits for the Otters as well.

The win goes to River City reliever Zach Robertson (2-0) who allowed one run in his only inning pitched. Evansville's David Francis receives the loss (0-1) after yielding the Sawyer home run. Kirkland Rivers recorded his second save in the River City win.

The Rascals will be looking for a sweep tomorrow morning in the series finale at 11:05 a.m. at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Lefty Mike Anton (0-2, 5.54 ERA) will start for Evansville as Dustin Umberger (0-2, 7.84 ERA) will be on the bump for River City.
