Tuesday, June 14 - 7:05 p.m. CST
Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL
Game #23 - Home Game #11 (11-11, 6-4)

Last Time Out.
Jake Renshaw turned in his best outing of the season and Erik Lis hit a home run that's probably still flying as the Joliet Slammers (11-11) beat the Washington Wild Things (10-12) by a final score of 3-2 Monday night. Trailing 2-1 in the third, Josh Flores bunted his way on with two outs. That's when Lis unloaded on a pitch to give the Slammers the lead for good. Renshaw took over from there as he went 8 + innings, giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out seven. Jeremy Tietze entered the game after the lead-off batter singled in the ninth and shut down the Wild Things for his first save of the season. Ben Hewett threw out two baserunners trying to steal and Bobby Leeper made a spectacular diving catch and tallied three hits in the game. With the win the Slammers have second place all by themselves in the East Division, one game back of the Windy City ThunderBolts.
For Starters.
Jason Jarvis is coming off a no-decision against the Florence Freedom where he went five innings, scattering seven hits, giving up four runs, three earned, walking one and striking out six. His first start of the year came against the Wild Things and he was excellent, going seven innings and only giving up one run. He suffered a hard luck 1-0 defeat though. Jarvis, 23, spent the last two plus years in the Giants' organization and the Slammers expect him to be one of the top pitchers in their rotation. After a dominating high school career that netted two state titles; Jarvis was drafted by the Angels in the 25th round in 2006. He went to Arizona State University instead and made an immediate impact during his rookie campaign. Despite not getting on the hill until conference play started, he set a school freshman record for saves with 11. Jarvis struck out 22 batters and walked eight in 30 innings. Jarvis' sophomore year was off to a great start when he decided to go pitch for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association. After not starting a game in college, he made seven starts with the Saltdogs. Overall, Jarvis made 23 appearances, netting a 2.98 ERA in 60 innings. Jarvis was drafted that June by the Giants in the 23rd round. He split time between rookie ball and low-A that year before spending all of 2009 with the AZL Giants. Last season was a good one for Jarvis as he posted a 3.07 ERA for the Augusta Greenjackets of the South Atlantic League.
Moving on up.
Joliet native Ryan Quigley was nearly untouchable as the closer for the Slammers. He was rewarded Monday as he signed a contract with the Washington Nationals' organization. He's the first Slammer in team history to be signed by an affiliated club. He'll play in the short season single-A New York-Penn League with the Auburn Doubledays. In 9 appearances, Quigley struck-out 14 batters in eight and a third innings, giving up only five hits. He was 2nd in the Frontier League with six saves and had a stellar earned run average of 1.08. Quigley did not blow a save this season.
Catch me if you can.
Slammers' catchers have not allowed a passed ball this season, the only team in the Frontier League who can say that. In addition, Ben Hewett has thrown out 53 percent (8-15) of all runners trying to steal.
We're going streaking!
Josh Flores has reached base in all 14 games he's played this year.
Five is the magic number.
The Slammers are 9-1 when scoring five or more runs in a game. They are 2-10 when scoring fewer than five runs.
Transaction Wire.
RHP Ryan Quigley's contract was purchased by the Washington Nationals. He becomes the first player in franchise history to have his contract purchased by a major league team. INF Nick Ochoa was released.
