Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) - The Evansville Otters have announced the signing of five new players this week.
The team added right-handed pitcher Ryne Purcell (Eastern Kentucky Univ) on Sunday as well as four more players on Monday, including fellow right-handers Josh Bagley (UNC Pembroke) and Adam Wisniewski (Old Dominion University). Infielder Ryan Still (Univ of Houston) and outfielder Alex Foltz (James Madison Univ) also joined the Otters for the start of the road-trip yesterday.
Purcell is a local pitcher from nearby Vincennes, Indiana, and the closer for Eastern Kentucky. He finished 1-1 this season with four saves and an earned run average of 4.58 for the Colonels. Ryne also had twelve saves his junior season, which led the Ohio Valley Conference. His resume also includes a no-hitter for Vincennes Lincoln High School while pitching in a sectional game.
Bagley joins Evansville from UNC Pembroke and resides in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The starter was 6-3 in 2011 with two complete games and an ERA of 2.76 . Opponents hit just .203 this season against the right-hander, who pitched four years with the Braves. Josh also performed well dating back to his freshman year, earning 13 starts, and finishing with seven wins.
Wisniewski joins the Otters from Old Dominion University, where he was a closer for the Monarchs. Adam set the school record with 15 saves this year and led the entire conference in that category as he was named to the all-CAA first team. The Norfolk, Virginia native had a 2.89 earned run average this season and lists New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera as his favorite sports personality.
Infielder Ryan Still is new to Evansville after finishing his college season at the University of Houston. The left-handed hitter ended the year with a .333 batting average and 21 runs batted in. Still also has speed that is well exemplified on defense as well on the bases, where he had twelve steals. Ryan was also a two-time conference champion at San Jacinto Junior College and resides in Houston.
Alex Foltz is an outfielder from James Madison University, where he held a .359 batting average with seven home runs and 44 runs batted in. He was named to the Third Team All-CAA on three occasions and was honored as the Most Outstanding Player at the CAA Tournament in 2008 as a sophomore. The outfielder from Mathias, West Virginia also had 16 steals this year.
