Bismarck Larks News Release
The Bismarck Larks defeated the La Crosse Loggers in a nail biting walk-off victory to win the first game of the final homestand of the 2019 season by a score of 3-2. Tonight's game was presented by Blarney Stone. The walk-off win was just the Larks second of the season, both have been at home in front of the Bismarck faithful with Wyatt Ulrich at the plate. Jack Chernow scored in the walk-off win after stealing third and then scoring on an overthrown into left field for the winning run. The Larks pitching was excellent in the game allowing just three hits and zero earned runs.
What's Next: The Bismarck Larks will again face off against the La Crosse Loggers on August 2nd at 7:35 pm. The Larks will hope to continue tonight's momentum into game two of the four game home series tomorrow evening.
How It Happened: The Larks scored first in the bottom of the second inning on their only RBI of the night. Gabe Yearian in his first career at-bat with the Larks was drilled by the first pitch he saw which drove in Ty Condel from third to break the deadlock through one and a half innings played.
The Loggers then took the lead in the next half inning on a two-out, two-run scoring error committed by the Larks.
The game paused in the top of the fourth inning for a rain delay that lasted over 30 minutes.
The Larks tied the game after the rain delay as Clay Woeste stole third for his league-leading 35th stolen base with two outs before scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game.
When play resumed, the Larks did not allow another hit the rest of the game. Matt Boynton now has two consecutive quality starts this season. His first was on the road in St. Cloud where he allowed three earned runs over 6.1 innings. Tonight, Boynton performed even better. He allowed no earned runs in the game while striking out six batters in his six innings on the mound. Drew Hensley matched Boynton's performance in relief as he retired nine in a row to end the game while striking out four in his outing.
The game was tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. The Larks leadoff batter, Jack Chernow walked before Gabe Yearian was hit by a pitch to make it first and second with nobody out. Wyatt Ulrich stepped to the plate and Chernow decided to steal third on the first pitch of the at-bat. The throw from the Logger's catcher was wild into left field and Chernow scored in dramatic fashion to win the game.
