Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) was eliminated from the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup after a 4-0 defeat (5-2 on aggregate) by Deportivo Toluca FC at Estadio Nemesio Díez on Wednesday night.
The Black & Gold entered the match with a 2-1 aggregate goal lead and played the hosts to a 0-0 draw through half time, but the second 45 minutes saw Toluca ultimately take control of the match.
Halftime substitute Ryan Hollingshead, who came in for Jacob Shaffelburg, gave away a penalty kick with a foul on Helinho in the 47th minute. The Toluca winger subsequently converted from the spot to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later, Everardo López blasted a long-range shot into the right side of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
Needing only one goal to send the match to overtime, LAFC head coach Marc Dos Santos tried to bring his side back into the match with a raft of substitutes but a red card to defender Ryan Porteous left the Black & Gold short handed with four minutes left in regulation.
Toluca took full advantage of its numerical advantage and LAFC's push for a goal, adding two more strikes in stoppage time from top-scoring forward Paulinho that resulted in the final 4-0 scoreline.
LAFC returns to MLS regular-season action when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo presented by Zippy Paws at BMO Stadium this Sunday, May 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast on Apple TV with local radio coverage on ESPN LA 710 AM, the ESPN LA app (English), La Mera Mera 980 AM (Spanish), and K-Radio 1230 AM (Korean) as well as national coverage on SiriusXM FC 157.
