Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, Ohio - Chad Kuhl (5-3) matched a career-high with seven innings pitched while a pair of sacrifice flies powered the Curve to a, 2-0, win in the series finale on Thursday afternoon at Canal Park. It's the first time this season Kuhl has finished seven innings. For the Curve it's the sixth team shutout of the 2015 season and with the win they improved to 12-4 in day games.
While Kuhl was keeping the 'Ducks batters off balance, the Curve lineup made the best of their limited scoring chances versus 'Ducks lefty Shawn Morimando (4-6). Stetson Allie grabbed his 35th RBI of the season with a sac fly in the fourth that put the Curve up, 1-0. An inning later, Max Moroff joined the sac fly party and grabbed one of his own to score Gift Ngoepe to run the lead to, 2-0. Earlier in the game, Moroff extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single.
That's all Kuhl and John Kuchno would need as the two combined to five-hit the RubberDucks. Kuhl struck out five in his seven innings and walked just one. Kuchno, who recorded his third save of the campaign, tossed the final two innings and struck out two.
Done with the RubberDucks until late July, the Curve (38-26) now return home for nine games in eight days beginning at 7 p.m. Friday night versus Harrisburg. The first 1,500 fans on Friday will take home the Josh Harrison Garden Gnome thanks to UniFirst on another Freebie Friday. After the game, kids can run the bases.
RHP Matt Benedict (2-2, 5.46) will be on the bump for the Curve in the series opener Friday night. He'll be opposed by Senators lefty Richard Bleier (4-3, 3.46) in the lid-lifter.
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the ticket windows at PNG Field.
