Altoona's Kuhl Shuts down RubberDucks

Altoona Curve right-hander Chad Kuhl tossed seven scoreless innings, and combined with closer John Kuchno to blank the Akron RubberDucks, 2-0, Thursday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Curve second baseman Max Moroff doubled and scored in the fourth inning, and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth as the Curve scratched out a pair of runs against Akron starter Shawn Morimando. Moroff was 2-3, on the day, and raised his season average to .318.

Mound Presence

Morimando (4-6) allowed just two runs over seven innings, but lost to the Curve for the third time this season. He walked two and fanned three. Kuhl (5-3) also worked seven impressive innings. He scattered four hits, walked one and struck out five. It was Kuhl's third start and first win against Akron. Kuchno worked the final two innings for his third save.

Duck Tales

Bryson Myles was 1-2, with a walk, and also recorded an outfield assist when he threw out Altoona's Josh Bell at the plate to end the fourth inning. Anthony Gallas collected Akron's only extra-base hit, a double in the seventh inning off Kuhl. Ronny Rodriguez got his first start at shortstop. Jordan Smith and Yandy Diaz each had a single.

Notes

The RubberDucks (33-31) snapped a seven-game winning streak...After pounding out 32 hits and scoring 14 runs in the first two games of the series, the Ducks were held to four hits and suffered their fifth shutout...Altoona turned three double plays...The Curve (38-26) moved back to five games up on the RubberDucks in the EL West standings...Time of game: 2:25...
