Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 7-6 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels Friday at Metro Bank Park. A crowd of 5,590 saw Harrisburg (28-37) avoid a sweep by the Richmond.

Wilmer Difo, Matt Skole and Drew Vettleson all contributed run-scoring singles to Harrisburg's big fifth inning. The Senators also took advantage of three walks and two errors to score a pair of unearned runs, turning a 4-1 deficit into a 7-4 lead. Chris Bostick opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI double, his first RBI as a Senator, that scored Pedro Severino.

Difo finished with two hits and a run scored. No other Senator had more than one hit, but Harrisburg walked six times as a team.

Senators' starter Matthew Spann struggled with his command early and lasted just three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked two and struck out three before being lifted. Bryan Harper began a streak of five straight scoreless innings by the Senators' bullpen, as he allowed just one hit in two innings. Paul Demny followed with two perfect innings and Gilberto Mendez pitched a perfect eighth inning.

Things became dicey in the ninth inning when an error started the inning and an RBI triple followed two batters later off Senators' reliever Sam Runion. The right-hander kept it a 7-5 game by striking out the next batter, but a dropped popup allowed Richmond to bring the game within one run. However, Runion induced a flyout to end the game.

The Senators begin a nine-game, eight-day roadtrip, beginning in Altoona tomorrow night with a 7:00 p.m. start The pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
