New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats defeated the Bowie Baysox by the score of 2-0 on Thursday evening at New Britain Stadium.

Rock Cats starter RHP Matt Flemer hurled eight and two-third innings of one hit baseball en route to his second win of the season (2-3). The right hander was pulled with two outs in the ninth after SS Ozzie Martinez laced a single to the gap in right-center. RHP Austin House came on to strike out LF Mike Yastrzemski to end the game and convert his league-leading 19th save.

The home club jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a broken bat single by RF Jeremy Barfield. The bloop single fell just in front CF Glynn Davis, giving C Will Swanner time to score from second, good for the outfielder's first RBI as a Rock Cat.

New Britain took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a big fly by Swanner. The Rock Cats backstop sent Baysox starter RHP Parker

Bridwell's offering to the opposite field, high over the batting tunnel just beyond the wall in right. Manager Darin Everson penciled in Swanner behind the plate for just the second time this season - first game at home.

Bridwell pitched a very strong game as well - throwing eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits while walking none and striking out five. He drops to 2-4 in the losing effort.

The Cats' take the show on the road for a two-city, eight-game series beginning in Richmond starting Friday evening. LHP Ryan Carpenter squares off against Richmond starter LHP Kelvin Marte with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
