Portland, Maine - The Binghamton Mets (35-30) scored three times in the fourth and four times in the fifth to upend the Sea Dogs (25-41) 7-1 and complete their three-game series sweep at Hadlock Field. Binghamton stretches their win streak to seven games, while the Sea Dogs have dropped four in a row and seven straight at home.
Michael Fulmer (W, 2-0) successfully pitched himself out of several jams en route to a quality start, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Portland stranded two runners in each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, and finished the game 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
The Mets took the lead first and for good in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Josh Rodriguez (3-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), his league-leading 12th of the year. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Albert Cordero (2-4, RBI) added an RBI single to make it 3-0 after four. Binghamton would then send nine men to the plate in the fifth and add four more runs on five hits and a Sea Dogs' error to make it a 7-0 lead. William Cuevas (L, 6-4) allowed six runs (five earned) in 4.1 innings, walking two and striking out five.
Portland's lone run came on a solo home run by Aneury Tavarez (2-4, 2B, HR, RBI), his first career Double-A homer.
The Sea Dogs hit the road for an eight-game trip beginning tomorrow night at First Energy Stadium in Reading, first pitch comes at 7:05 PM. Justin Haley (1-8, 5.98) gets the go for the Sea Dogs against Mark Leiter Jr., who will be making his first Double-A start for Reading.
