Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets made the best of their only meeting of the season with the Allen Americans Friday night scoring a 5-0 shutout win in front of a crowd of 7,468. Both starting goaltenders left the game early due to injuries. Fort Wayne goalie Pat Nagle left the game after making three saves at 3:24 of the first period and Allen's Riley Gill made his exit at 6:17 after allowing a goal on five shots. Komet netminder Eric Hartzell earned his first win of the season with his seventh pro shutout on 24 saves. Jamie Murray stopped 36 of 40 shots in relief for the Americans.
Forward Kyle Thomas was Fort Wayne's star of the game scoring a short-handed goal and adding three assists for a four-point night. Mike Cazzola notched his second power play marker of the year and Mason Baptista scored his first goal of the season short-handed. Jamie Schaafsma and Garrett Thompson also hit the twin in Fort Wayne's first shutout of the season.The Komets were 1/5 on the power play while stopping all six of Allen's man advantages for a run of 18 straight penalty kills. -Gamesheet-The Komets improve to 4-1-0 and eight points after five games and Allen drops to 3-3-0 for six points after six games.The Komets are idle until they travel to Cincinnati Wednesday for a 7:35pm start at the U.S. Bank Arena before returning to Sweetwater Ice at the Memorial Coliseum Friday, Nov. 4 to face the Indy Fuel at 8pm in their next home game.
