Allen Americans News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Allen Americans continued their first road trip of the season with a stop in Fort Wayne, Indiana Friday night. It was a long evening for the Americans as they couldn't get the offense rolling while the Komets were on fire. The Americans dropped a 5-0 decision to Fort Wayne to fall to 0-2 on the trip.
"We didn't play hard enough to score a goal, let alone win a hockey game," said Allen Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson.
Mike Cazzola netted the lone goal of the opening frame for the Komets on the power play, becoming the first to score against the Allen penalty kill unit this season. In the second period, Fort Wayne extended their lead to 3-0 on goals by Kyle Thomas and Mason Baptista. The Thomas goal was the first of two shorthanded goals for the Komets on the night.
Former Americans captain Jamie Schaafsma lit the lamp within the first minute of play in the third period to push the Komets lead to 4-0. Then it was Garrett Thompson capping the night for Fort Wayne with his shorthanded marker six minutes later to give Fort Wayne the 5-0 victory.
Allen went 0-6 on the power play, while Fort Wayne went 1-5. Allen lost both Dyson Stevenson and Riley Gill to shoulder injuries on Friday night. Neither are expected to play the rest of the weekend.
The Americans continue their Midwest jaunt with a stop in Indianapolis on Saturday night to take on the Fuel. The puck drop at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum is scheduled for 6:35PM CST.
