Last Game

Alex Petan broke a 1-1 tie at 11:20 of the third period and the host Mallards went on to defeat the Missouri Mavericks 2-1 Wednesday night.

Streak

Wednesday night's win was the Mallards' third in a row. The streak started with a two-game sweep of the Rush in Rapid City last weekend. The Mallards have rebounded after being swept themselves over the opening weekend of the season by the Fort Wayne Komets.

Finally

Wednesday night's win was the Mallards' first victory over the Mavericks since they won 4-3 in a shootout on March 29, 2015 in Missouri. Regular season and playoffs combined, the Mallards had gone 0-8-1 in their prior nine games against the Mavericks before winning Wednesday night.

Home Cooking

Wednesday night's win was the Mallards' first home victory of the season. The Mallards dropped their only prior home game to Fort Wayne 6-2 on opening night.

Road Show

After tonight's game the Mallards play their next two games on the road. The Mallards have won their first two road games of the season.

Dynamic Duo

Justin Kovacs (3-4-7) is tied for ninth in the ECHL in points, just ahead of linemate Sam Warning (2-4-6). Kovacs has collected points in each of the Mallards' first five games while Warning's season-opening four-game point-scoring streak ended Wednesday night. Warning has assisted on each of Kovacs' three goals; Kovacs has assisted on both of Warning's goals.

Third Wheel

Petan (2-3-5) has joined with Kovacs and Warning to form the Mallards' most productive line. Wednesday night's game winner was Petan's second goal in his last two games. Petan, Kovacs and Warning have combined to score seven of the Mallards' 12 total goals.

Between the Pipes

Adam Vay made 24 saves Wednesday night on the way to his second straight win.

Power Play

The Mallards are tied for sxith in the ECHL on the power play (25.0 percent) after scoring on five of their first 20 man advantages. The Mallards have scored on the power play in four of their first five games.

The Mallards have given up three goals on 20 opposition power plays and are tied for twelfth in the ECHL in penalty killing (85.0 percent). The Mallards have successfully completed their last 13 penalty kills after allowing three goals on their first seven disadvantages.

Head to Head

The Mallards and Oilers will meet three times this season at the iWireless Center. The Mallards will not visit Tulsa. The Mallards last season went 3-2-0 against the Oilers and 2-1-0 on home ice. All-time, the Mallards have gone 15-13-0 against Tulsa overall and 10-6-0 at home.

Goaltender Adam Vay was reassigned by Minnesota (NHL) to Iowa (AHL) yesterday...Jake Reed was signed as an emergency backup goaltender yesterday...Forward Brady Brassart returned to the lineup Wednesday night after missing last Saturday's game (upper body injury)... Forwards Michael Parks (lower body injury) and Jack Nevins (lower body injury) and forward/defenseman Kyle Follmer (lower body injury) have missed the Mallards' last three games.
