NORFOLK, VA. - The Toledo Walleye (6-1-0-0) left Norfolk a happy bunch on Saturday night, defeating the Admirals (1-5-1-0) 4-1 to earn the weekend sweep.
First Period
Toledo dominated the opening 20 minutes, striking three times beginning with Dane Walters' second of the season. The 6'0" - 200 lbs. forward buried the puck off a designed play from Evan Rankin and Nolan Zajac to give the visiting Walleye a 1-0 lead just 5:28 in.
Admirals defender Gabriel Verpaelst was later sent to the penalty box for tripping, giving Toledo its first power play of the night. The Walleye wasted no time on its man advantage as Nolan Zajac rifled in the puck from Tyler Sikura for his first of the season to extend the Walleye's lead 2-0.
The Walleye weren't done in the first yet though, as with 4:30 left in the frame former Admiral Jared Nightingale flew a pass to Tyson Spink, and just like last night's overtime winner dished it his twin brother Tylor who buried past Eetu Laurikainen to increase Toledo's lead 3-0. Tylor Spink has now registered a point in all seven game he's played this season for Toledo. Spink's tally was the third goal allowed on six shots by Admirals netminder Eetu Laurikainen.
Due to the frustrations of trailing 3-0 in the first, Admirals forwards Alex Ranger and Domenic Alberga dropped the gloves with Toledo's Jared MacDonald and Beau Schmitz. All four players were assessed with a five minute major for fighting.
Second Period
The second period did not go in favor of the Admirals either, despite leading the shot count 23 to 16. Then with three minutes left in the second, Shane Berschbach capitalized on a breakaway, assisted via a long stretch pass from Kyle Bonis. Toledo would take a 4-0 lead into the room.
Third Period
In the third, the Admirals would finally get on the scoreboard thanks to Domenic Alberga. Gabriel Verpaelst earned his first point of the season on the tally and the assist was Pochiro's first in his first game with the team.
Toledo would hold on to the lead as the Admirals fall 4-1.
Three Stars:
1) Jake Paterson - TOL - (Win, 32 Saves)
2) Nolan Zajac - TOL - (Goal, Assist)
3) Dane Walters - TOL - (Goal)
