STEELHEADS: Game Day Storylines- vs Reading

October 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel The Steelheads snapped a two-game winless skid and earned their second win of the season on Friday night with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Reading Royals in the middle game of their three-game set. The Steelheads now hit the ice for their last game of this home stand before heading back on the road, looking for their first back-to-back wins of the year.

Branden Komm led the way for the Steelheads on Friday night, making 32 saves and stopping all four shooters in the shootout for his first win of the year. Will Merchant scored the only goal of the shootout, a deke that beat Mark Dekanich on a night when the Royals goaltender made 41 saves of his own. Anthony Luciani and Kellan Lain scored in regulation for Idaho, the second goal of the season for each of them.

Power Streak... The Steelheads' power play chips away, as their steady consistency has them ranked in the top-ten in the league after Luciani lit the lamp on a 5-on-3 power play Friday night. The Steelheads have scored a power play goal in four straight games and in five of six to start the season, their only game without a power play goal coming in a shutout defeat. The Steelheads also have proven to host a variety of power play weapons. Their five goals have come from five different goal-scorers, with none yet coming from last year's team-leader in power play goals in Jefferson Dahl.

Light it, Looch! Anthony Luciani is picking up his offensive production during the Steelheads home stand, now with points in three of the past four games following Friday's two point performance. Luciani also has two multi-point games in his last three outings and is tied for second on the team with five points. Playing with Kellan Lain and Kyle Jean on Friday, the trio accounted for both Steelheads goals and 15 of Idaho's 43 shots on Dekanich.

Dahl'in... Jefferson Dahl's assist on Luciani's power play goal extended his points streak to four games, pushing his team-leading assist total to six. It's the third longest points streak of Dahl's career, bested only by a five-game streak in his rookie season and a six-game streak last year. Dahl has factored in on seven of Idaho's last 17 goals scored.
