Komets remain unbeaten in home openers

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets opened their home slate of the 2005-06 season to a record 4th straight 10k-plus opening night crowd at the Memorial Coliseum with a sold-out attendance of 10,462. The Komets are still unbeaten in regulation in UHL home openers as they stopped the visiting Motor City Mechanics 4-1. Fort Wayne is now 6-0-1 in home openers since joining the UHL in 1999.

Center Mark Smith scored the first 2 Komet goals of the season at home as wingers Danny Stewart and Mike Wiggins also added markers in the match. Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre earned the win stopping 21 of 22 Mechanic shots. The Komets netted 2 power play goals out of 7 chances with the man advantage while turning back 5 of 6 Motor City power plays.

This week the Komets will skate 3 games in 3 nights over the weekend. Friday the Missouri River Otters visit for an 8pm faceoff. Saturday the Komets host the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30pm before traveling to Quad City for a 2pm matinee Sunday. All 3 games this weekend are scheduled to air on WOWO Radio AM 1190 with Bob Chase calling the play-by-play.

Veteran's Night and Hurricane Relief Night Friday.....this Friday, Nov. 11 doubles-up as Veteran's Night and Hurricane Relief Night as the Komets host the Missouri River Otters at 8pm. The night will feature special tributes to American veterans and the unveiling of a special United States flag that proudly flew in the face of the enemy during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Also, the game will be a benefit for the victims of the 2005 hurricane season. The Komets are offering the chance for Fort Wayne area businesses, organizations and groups to help the victims of the 2005 hurricane season by treating employees, customers, family and friends to the game. Tickets are being offered in blocks of 50, 100 and 250 at reduced prices with 50% of the purchase price being donated to the American Red Cross for the victims of devastating hurricanes this year. The Komets will make these donations in the names of participating companies and groups.
