Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review

November 7, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings started their week on Wednesday (11/02) with a trip to the Rockford MetroCentre to battle the Rockford IceHogs. Rockford took the lead 4:41 into the opening period with a power-play tally from Corey Hessler. The goal from Hessler marked the first-time (184 minutes 41 seconds) this season that the K-Wings trailed in a game. The K-Wings answered later in the period with a power-play goal of their own, as Jason Deitsch (1), who was making his season debut lit the lamp to knot the game up at 1-1. In the second period, Rockford stormed back with two unanswered goals, including the eventual game-winning goal from Preston Mizzi (10). Kalamazoo pulled back to a single goal with a tally from Joe Seroski (4) with just under three minutes to play in regulation; however, it wouldn't be enough as Rockford won 3-2, giving Kalamazoo their first loss of the season.

The K-Wings returned home to Wings Stadium last Friday (11/04) to host the Missouri River Otters. Kalamazoo had eight different players light the lamp in their 8-1 victory over Missouri. The K-Wing forward Jason Deitsch put up a career high three-point night (1 goal, 2 assists) to lead the K-Wings in points. Defenseman Josh Elzinga delivered his first muliti-point game of his career adding a goal (1) and assist.

Kalamazoo finished the week back on the road with a trip to Muskegon on Saturday (11/05). After trading goals in each of the first two periods, it was the Fury that took the lead for good with a third period power-play goal from David Wrigley (7) to win the game 3-2. The victory by Muskegon snapped a K-Wings two-game winning streak over the Fury.

Fast Forward
The K-Wings will start a four-game home stand this Friday (11/11) night at 7:30 p.m. when the Port Huron Flags come into Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo defeated Port Huron 6-1 in their previous encounter of the season at the McMorran Place Arena back on October 22nd. The Flags enter the week on a two-game losing streak and in fifth place in the Central division.

Kalamazoo will conclude the week at Wings Stadium this Saturday (12/12) with 7:30 p.m. face-off against the Danbury Trashers. Danbury is off to a great start to the season going 4-3-1 (9 points). The Trashers, who start the week in second place in the Eastern Division, are 3-0-1 away from the Danbury Ice Arena this year. Saturday's game also coincides with WNWN 98.5 FM Win-Win Night; if the K-Wings win everyone in attendance will receive a FREE ticket to the K-Wings home against the Rockford IceHogs on November 16th.

Home Sweet Home
The K-Wings, who are a perfect 2-0-0 at Wings Stadium this year, will get a chance to improve upon that record later this week. Kalamazoo will play five of their next six games at home, including four in a row starting this Friday.

The 500 Club
Forward Nick Bootland reached a personal milestone last Saturday in Muskegon. The game on November 5th was Bootland's 500th career game.

Hitting His Target
Forward Jason Deitsch enters the week with a shooting percentage of .400. Deitsch ranks tied for second among all UHL players and tied for first among rookies in shooting percentage.

Nearing a Milestone
Defenseman Greg Labenski is nearing a personal milestone. Labenski needs just one more assist to reach 100 for his career.

The Obscure Stat of the Week
The K-Wings have given up nine goals this season; however only three of the goals have been scored even-strength. The three full-strength goals are the fewest allowed in the UHL this season.
