Muskegon takes lead in tough Central Division

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The Muskegon Fury won three games in three nights vs. their Central Division rivals to take over the top spot in the division. The defending Colonial Cup Champions boast a perfect 6-0-0 record and have four of the top ten scorers in the league through the first three weeks of the season (Todd Robinson, Jeff Nelson, Robin Bouchard, and Ryan Keller). Center Todd Robinson is tied for the UHL lead with 16 points (4g, 12a).

Goaltender Clayton Pool has been a bright spot in net for the Fury. Pool pushed his season record to 4-0-0 and ranks second in the UHL with a .943 save percentage.

Muskegon leads a division with five teams that are separated by just six points as each team has at least three victories during the young season.

HATS OFF - Three hat tricks were recorded during the week. Adirondack's Hugo Belanger tallied three goals on Friday vs. Elmira, rookie Muskegon winger Ryan Keller netted three goals vs. Motor City on Sunday, and Roanoke's David Beauregard earned a hat trick on Sunday vs. Danbury. Keller scored three different ways as he scored a goal on the power play, one at even strength, and one shorthanded.

ONE ON ONE - Kalamazoo forward Tim Turner scored a goal on a penalty shot in the second period on Saturday vs. Muskegon. It was the second penalty shot in the UHL this season.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Adirondack Frostbite - (2-1-0) - Left wing Hugo Belanger and right wing Kevin Watters both have eight-game point streaks as they have scored at least one point in each Frostbite game this season. The streak is the best in the UHL this season...Watters had his seven-game goal streak snapped on Saturday vs. Danbury. He leads all UHL rookies in points (15) and goals (9)...The Frostbite are tied for the league lead with 14 power play goals and four shorthanded goals...Adirondack ranks first in the UHL with 36.88 shots on goal per game.

Danbury Trashers - (1-2-0) - Forward Alex Goupil has a goal in four of the last five games and a point in six of eight games this season...Five of the last 11 goals given up by the Trashers have been power play goals... Defenseman Mario Larocque recorded the 100th assist of his career on Saturday...Defenseman Dave MacIsaac is three points away from 200 for his career...Three Danbury players have yet to collect a penalty minute this season (Jeff Daw, Shawn Collymore, Mathieu Wathier). The Trashers are currently 4th in the UHL in penalty minutes (266).

Elmira Jackals - (0-4-0) - Rookie forward Jarrett Konkle is riding a six-game point streak. He has scored in seven of the eight Elmira games this season. He is also tied for 3rd in the league with seven goals...Goaltender Ryan McIntosh is currently 4th among UHL goaltenders with a .935 SPCT...Defenseman Chris Mann is 2nd in the UHL with 42 penalty minutes. He is tied with teammate Trevor Burgess for 2nd in the league with 11 minor penalties... The Jackals racked up 106 minutes in penalties during their four games this week. They are 2nd in the UHL with 76 minor penalties.

Flint Generals - (1-1-0) - The Generals received goals from five different players in Saturday's 5-4 victory vs. Port Huron. Defenseman Fabien Laniel (1g, 2a) and forward Sean Starke (1g, 2a) both had three-point nights...Center Terry Marchant had four points (2g, 2a) in the two games during the week...Defenseman J.P. Morin and right wing Matt Elich are both riding three-game assist streaks...Defenseman John Glavota has penalty minutes in seven consecutive games.

Fort Wayne Komets - (1-0-0) - Left wing P.C. Drouin is riding a current league high six-game assist streak... Center Mark Smith has a three-game goal streak which is tied as the current UHL high...The Komets played their 2005-06 home opener on Saturday and defeated Motor City 4-1. They improved their record in UHL home openers to 6-0-1. The Komets also welcomed 10,462 fans which is the fourth consecutive home opener with over 10,000 in attendance...Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre stopped 21 of 22 shots to earn the victory on Saturday.

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-1-0) - Left wing Nick Bootland played in his 500th career game on Saturday...Defenseman Greg Labenski is one assist shy of 100 for his career...Forward Jason Deitsch is tied for 2nd in the UHL and 1st among rookies with a .400 shooting percentage...Goaltender Jeff Reynaert is 2nd in the UHL with a 1.61 GAA... Kalamazoo has scored first in five of their six games this season and has outscored their opponents 28-9...The K-Wings have allowed only three even strength goals this season. Last week, six of the seven goals allowed were power play goals...Kalamazoo is allowing a league best 1.50 goals per game... Defenseman Josh Elzinga registered three points (1g, 2a) during the weekend. Last season he recorded just five points (0g, 5a) in 48 games played.

Missouri River Otters - (0-2-1) - Rookie goaltender Brenden Cuthbert recorded his first professional shutout on Wednesday as he stopped all 25 Motor City shots in regulation. The Otters were defeated 1-0 in the shootout... Missouri leads the UHL with 299 penalty minutes including 87 they recorded on Saturday vs. Rockford...The 172 combined penalty minutes vs. Rockford was a new team record for the Otters eclipsing the mark of 158 minutes set vs. Quad City last season...Missouri begins a seven-game road trip this week.

Motor City Mechanics - (2-2-0) - Goaltender Rod Branch recorded his first shutout of the season on Wednesday vs. Missouri. He stopped all 39 shots in regulation and three of four in the shootout. It was the 24th career shutout for Branch...Forward Peter Szabo netted his first professional goal on Friday vs. Port Huron...Right wing Konstantin Kalmikov is tied for the league lead with 42 shots on goal...Branch leads UHL goaltenders with five wins.

Muskegon Fury - (3-0-0) - In their three wins in three nights vs. Central Division foes, Muskegon outscored their opponents 15-5... Muskegon's power play ranks 1st in the UHL (28.6%)...The penalty killing unit also ranks 1st in the league (50 of 54, 92.6%)...With their 3-2 win vs. Kalamazoo on Saturday, the Fury moved their record to 31-6-2 in the last 39 games with the Wings...In his last five games, center Todd Robinson is averaging three points per game (4g, 11a)...Robin Bouchard has tallied 11 points (5g, 6a) in his last five games...Rookie right wing Ryan Keller is on a six-game point streak.

Port Huron Flags - (0-2-0) - Left wing Brian Felsner is on a three-game assist streak. He has six assists during that span...Right wing Brad Mehalko is currently tied for the league best three-game goal streak... Forward Jaako Kallio is currently 5th in the UHL with a .333 shooting percentage...Port Huron is 4th in the UHL on the power play (20.4%)...The Flags are averaging 2,630 fans through their first four home games. The Port Huron Beacons averaged 1,659 during the 2004-05 season.

Quad City Mallards - (3-0-1) - During the Mallards four-game road trip through the Eastern Division, they allowed just one goal in the third period. The only third period goal was scored by Elmira with 57 seconds remaining in the final game of the road trip...Quad City is 8-0-1 vs. the Eastern Division over the last two seasons...After going 1 for 28 on the power play during the first three games of the week, the Mallards scored three power play goals on Sunday vs. Elmira...Seven different players recorded goals on the four-game road trip.

Richmond RiverDogs - (1-0-0) - Defenseman Brian Goudie played his 800th career game on Wednesday as Richmond defeated Elmira 4-2 and earned their first victory of the season...Defenseman Dan Vandermeer has an assist in five of six games this season...Goaltender Mike D'Alesandro stopped 49 shots in Wednesday's victory. The 49 saves are a current season high in the UHL...Left wing Rafal Martynowski's power play goal vs. Elmira was the first for Richmond in four games. The 'Dogs had gone 0 for 21 on the power play during that stretch.

Roanoke Valley Vipers - (1-0-0) - Left wing David Beauregard notched a hat trick (3g) in the 4-3 victory vs. Danbury on Sunday. Each goal gave the Vipers the lead in the game...Goaltender Shawn Conschafter made 22 saves vs. Danbury to record his first victory of the season...The Vipers have the fewest penalty minutes in the UHL (98). They average 16.33 per game...Roanoke's games vs. Richmond scheduled for Friday and Saturday were postponed due to ice problems at the Roanoke Civic Center. No makeup dates have been set.

Rockford IceHogs - (2-0-0) - The IceHogs remain undefeated (8-0-0) and are on the longest winning streak in Rockford team history...Both goaltenders are 4-0-0 to start the season. However, Ronnie Vogel has received 6.25 goals per game support while Michel Robinson has received 3.00 goals per game of support...Rockford set a new team record with 13 power play opportunities on Saturday vs. Missouri...The IceHogs have trailed after only one period in eight games this season (24 periods of play). The only period they trailed was the first period on opening night vs. Elmira (2-1)...Winger Greg Barber is tied for the UHL lead with three game-winning goals.
