Komets Net Three Points in Shootouts; Gladiators Here for Battle Friday and Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets gained three points in two games played over the weekend but not without advancing to shootouts both nights.

Friday night the Komets made their first of 10 trips to Kalamazoo and rekindled the old rivalry against the Wings skating to a 0-0 draw at the end of regulation and overtime. The Wings came out on top in the shootout 3-0 and the Komets settled for a point with a 1-0 shootout loss. Goaltender Kenny Reiter earned the shutout on 25 saves.

Saturday the Komets returned home to clip the Evansville IceMen 4-3 in another shootout and take an early season series lead over the IceMen 2-0 with nine meetings remaining. Goaltender Marco Cousineau earned the Komet win in his first appearance of the season. Right wing Brandon Marino notched his second three-point game of the season dishing three assists while Brett Smith (C), Eric Giosa (C), and Josh Brittain (LW) scored Fort Wayne goals in regulation. Brittain also tallied a shootout goal. J.M. Rizk (RW) and Colin Chaulk (C) completed the shootout scoring for the Fort Wayne win.

The Komets improved to 2-1-1 after four games and enter week three of the 2012-13 ECHL campaign trailing division leader Kalamazoo by a point.

Komet leaders of the week -Brandon Marino (RW) registered three assists. Colin Chaulk passed two assists and scored a shootout goal in the Komets 4-3 win Saturday against Evansville. Josh Brittain scored a goal in regulation Saturday and added a shootout tally. Eric Giosa (C) also netted a regulation goal Saturday and added a shootout marker.

Marino leads Fort Wayne after four games with eight points. Giosa leads with Marino with three goals while Chaulk leads with Marino with five assists.

Netminder Kenny Reiter stopped all 25 shots faced in regulation and overtime Friday in Kalamazoo to improve to 1-0-1 and lead ECHL goalies at the end of week two with a 0.83 goals-against-average.

Milestones - Brandon Marino skated his 200th pro game Saturday against Evansville. Goalie Kenny Reiter posted his first pro shutout Friday night at Kalamazoo. Defenseman Tyler Butler has scored 99 goals during his 10-year career. The Komets have skated 4,494 regular season games since their first season 1952-53 and will reach the 4,500 mark when they skate at Kalamazoo Saturday, Nov. 10.

Special K's -The Komets' specialty teams were 2/6 (33.3%) with the man advantage and rank second in the ECHL with a power play rating of 33.3% (4/12). The Komets rank second with Alaska on the penalty kill at 95.7% (22/23) after surrendering their first power play tally to Evansville Saturday in Fort Wayne. Elmira is the only team in the ECHL that has not given up a power play goal this season.

- Friday vs Gwinnett

- Saturday vs Gwinnett -- The Komets will host their fist of six back-to-back home weekend double-headers when the Gwinnett Gladiators make their debut appearance in Fort Wayne this Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 7:30pm. Gwinnett is fielding an ECHL team for its 17th season this year. Gwinnett first began as the Mobile Mysticks in the ECHL 1995-96. After a one-year layoff, Gwinnett returned as the Gladiators in 2003-04. The Gladiators finished 2011-12 in third place in the Central Division and were eliminated in the Conference Finals. Gwinnett has gotten off to a 1-2-1 start after four games this season and trail South Division rival Orlando by two points. The Gladiators are coming off a 1-1-1 week and completed week two with their first win of the season, 4-3 at Greenville Sunday. Gwinnett will skate at Evansville Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne for games this Friday and Saturday.

The half-hour show is televised from the WPTA TV studios each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts. Tonight, Oct. 22, Komets Eric Giosa and Brandon Marino will be Tommy's guests.
