Steelheads complete sweep in Colorado

Published on October 22, 2012 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

After scoring just four goals in their first two games of the season, the Idaho Steelheads offense awoke in a big way last week, scoring 16 goals in a three-game road sweep of the Colorado Eagles.

Idaho opened the series with a 7-6 shootout win on Wednesday. Tristan King tied a Steelheads team record with four goals, while Adrian Foster dished out four assists in his first game with the club. Tyler Beskorowany, who was an ECHL All-Star with the Steelheads in 2011, earned his first win of the season with 25 saves in regulation and overtime, and then turning aside four of five Colorado attempts in the shootout to give head coach Brad Ralph his first win with Idaho.

Friday saw the Steelheads record another one-goal victory with a 3-2 win. Three different Steelheads scored in the win, with Gord Baldwin and Andrew Carroll scoring third-period goals to lead the rally, while Jeremie Blain and Kael Mouillierat each had two assists. Josh Robinson recorded the win in his pro debut making 20 saves.

The Steelheads closed out the week with a 6-1 win on Saturday. Sam Carrick, Ron Meyers and Blain all scored in the first 13:30 of the first period, and King added his fifth goal of the series early in the second to get the Steelheads off to a quick start. Robinson once again was solid in net, turning aside 35 shots for his second consecutive win.

It has been a balanced scoring effort for Idaho early in the season with three players, King (5g-1a), Justin Dowling (2g-4a) and Mouillierat (1g-5a) sharing the team lead with six points each, while 10 Steelheads have tallied at least two points through two weeks. King shares the ECHL lead in goals, while rookie Austin Fyten is tied for the overall league lead in plus-minus at +6. Blain is tied for first among league defensemen with five points (2g-3a).

After playing each of their last four games on the road, the Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena this week to host Ontario on Wednesday and Friday, before traveling to Utah on Saturday.
