Game Rewind

Friday, October 19th Vs Fort Wayne Komets (Kalamazoo 1-Fort Wayne 0-Shootout)

Kalamazoo, MI- Joel Martin lifted the Kalamazoo Wings (2-1-0-0) to a home opening 1-0 shootout victory over the Fort Wayne Komets (1-1-0-1) Friday night at Wings Stadium in front of a sold out crowd of 5,183.

After a 45 minute delay to the game because of travel delays because of interstate gridlock, Fort Wayne showed no bus legs, outshooting the K-Wings 35-26 for the game.

Without a doubt, Martin was the game's top performer turning aside 35 shots earning his 16th career shutout and 11th as a member of the K-Wings.

The only scoring in the contest came in the shootout, where the K-Wings out dueled the Komets 3-0, earning tallies from Justin Taylor, Michael Davies and Brett Lysak.

While the shootout may have been an appropriate conclusion for Martin's dominance, the game-winner for Taylor is also a fitting, as the forward help secure the K-Wings victory, while playing in front of his parents for the first time in his professional career.

Just as solid between the pipes was Fort Wayne's Kenny Reiter, who made 25 saves in the shootout setback.

Saturday, October 20th Vs Toledo Walleye (Kalamazoo 4-Toledo 2)

Kalamazoo, MI- Darren Archibald netted two goals and Kory Karlander grabbed the game-winner, as the Kalamazoo Wings (3-1-0-0) defeated the Toledo Walleye (2-1-0-0) 4-2 Saturday night at Wings Stadium.

Archibald buried the opening tally from a shot in the slot giving the K-Wings the lead and also marking the first time in this young season that Kalamazoo has lit the lamp in the first period.

Pulling even in the second period, Toledo tied up the contest with a goal from Will Coetzee (2nd) after he showed some quick hands and put the puck in the back of the net.

A quick response from Kalamazoo gave them the lead for good, when Archibald (3rd) scored his second of the night and gave the K-Wings their second power play goal of the year. The three tallies for Archibald give him the team-lead in goals scored.

After killing off another Walleye power play, Kalamazoo translated that momentum into a goal of their own, this time scored by Karlander. The eventual game-winner was Karlander's first point of the campaign.

Adding insurance in the third period, Karlander's face-off victory in the right circle with 16:39 remaining in regulation went to tape of Michael Davies, who flung his first goal of the season past Petr Mrazek.

Toledo's Bryon Froese (1st) notched a goal late, but it wasn't enough, as the K-Wings won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Joe Cannata gave the K-Wings strong support between the pipes in his K-Wings debut making a team season-high 40 saves in the victory.
