Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
The Road Warriors had a busy weekend that began with the Home Opener on Friday night. The night began with the Road Warriors first Hockey Happy Hour on the Charter Business Plaza. The event was presented by Rock 101 and Chiefs Wings and Firewater. Hockey Happy Hour will continue every Friday home game at 5 p.m.
Hockey Happy Hour took fans right to the start of the game where the Road Warriors played the South Carolina Stingrays. Greenville had a flurry of goals coming from Brandon Wong, Marc-Olivier Vallerand, Francis Verreault, Sean Berkstresser and newcomer Scott Pitt. The Road Warriors won their first game of the season by a score of 5-2.
The Road Warriors would then travel to Gwinnett on Saturday to begin a home and home series. Greenville won an overtime thriller 3-2 off the stick of leading scorer, Brandon Wong. Goaltender Adam Courchaine won his second straight stopped 28 of 30 shots.
Sunday's game finished off the weekend against the Gwinnett Gladiators at the EquilifeMD Rink in the Bi-Lo center. The Road Warriors took a commanding 3-0 lead with goals from Brandon Wong, Marc-Olivier Vallerand, and Shayne Wiebe. Gwinnett would comeback scoring 2 goals in the second period and 2 goals in the 3rd to drop the Road Warriors by a 4-3 score.
Week Ahead
Greenville will travel south next weekend to face off against divisional rivals Florida and Orlando. The Road Warriors will play Florida on Saturday night at 7 p.m. then travel to Orlando for a 3 p.m. game on Sunday.
News and Notes
-Brandon Wong is tied for 3rd in the league with 4 goals.
-Brandon Wong carries a 3 game scoring streak into next week's action. Shayne Wiebe also has a 2 game scoring streak as well as a 3 game point streak.
-Marc-Olivier Vallerand has a 3 game point streak with 4 points in his last 3 games.
-Adam Courchaine did not allow a goal for 61:02 from Saturday night's 2nd period through Sunday's 2nd period.
-The Road Warriors have never seen the Orlando Solar Bears, being a new team in the ECHL.
-Bretton Cameron is tied for 7th in the league with 20 penalty minutes.
