Aces Partner in Food Drive to Benefit Local Military
October 22, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces have partnered with Specialty Truck & Auto and the Anchorage Media Group to sponsor a week-long food drive to benefit the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska's Food Pantry for local military, from October 22 through October 28. Non-perishable food items and diapers are currently being accepted at the Aces Office, Specialty Truck & Auto, and the Anchorage Media Group office. Canned goods are also being accepted at the next Aces home series on October 26, 27, and 28 when the Aces host the expansion San Francisco Bulls. For more information on all Aces related news, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
The Armed Services YMCA of Alaska has a Food Pantry on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson that can be accessed by any military ID card holder, to ensure that no military family goes hungry because of financial strain. During the holiday season the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska's Food Pantry experiences more traffic. The goal of this food drive is to make sure that no military family goes without food, especially during the holidays. In each of the last three years, the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska's Food Pantry has fed over 1,200 individuals per year. Through September of this year the Food Pantry has welcomed over 1,300 people.
There are nearly 65,000 military members and their families stationed in Alaska. Nearly 45% of these troops are currently deployed or will deploy within 6 months. While most Americans understand that military life creates challenges for military members and their families, and these challenges are part of the job, the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska is asking Alaskans to help make military life just a little bit easier for these families.
Addresses for the drop off locations are as follows:
Alaska Aces Office: 724 East 15th Ave, Anchorage AK 99501
Anchorage Media Group Office: 301 Arctic Slope Ave, Anchorage AK 99518
Specialty Truck & Auto: 8225 Hartzell Rd, Anchorage AK 99507
Aces Games (10/26, 10/27, 10/28): Sullivan Arena - 1600 Gambell St, Anchorage AK
The Armed Services YMCA of Alaska is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and does not generate revenue through mem - bership fees. In order to provide more than 30 free and low-cost programs and services for service members and their families stationed in Alaska, they rely on the generous support of Alaskans.
The Aces encourage fans to participate in the food drive by bringing items to any of the collection areas this week. The Aces host the San Francisco Bulls this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the first ever meeting between the two clubs. The games on Friday and Saturday begin at 7:15pm and Sunday's game begins at 3:05pm. Tickets are currently on sale at the Aces office, Fred Meyer locations and www.ticketmaster.com.
