
Komets Get Ready for Busy March

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, February 28, 2011 -- The Komets earned two points in three games played for week 20 of the 2010-11 CHL campaign. With four weeks and 14 games remaining Fort Wayne (25-22-5) holds seventh place in the Turner Conference trailing fourth-place Missouri by seven points in the push for home ice advantage in the playoffs.
Fort Wayne's March slate has 14 games in 25 nights. The Komets will begin the month with four games in five nights this week. The Komets will complete the month skating eight games in 11 nights from March 16th to the 26th.
About February -- The Komets posted their best February since 2008 with a 9-4-0 record for 18 points in 13 games (.692). Center Colin Chaulk topped the K's with 12 assists and 16 points with a plus-minus of plus-six appearing in all 13 games. Right wing Tab Lardner led with eight goals. Netminder Kevin Reiter registered a 2.13 goals-against average and .926 save percentage with a 4-2-0 record in seven appearances.

Friday, Feb. 25, at Fort Wayne 4 Quad City 1
The Komets opened a three-game weekend with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Quad City Mallards Friday. Derek Patrosso highlighted the game with his first pro hat trick and third three-point game of the season. It was the last meeting of the season between the Mallards and Komets as Fort Wayne evened the series 4-4-2. The Mallards lone goal of the game stopped Fort Wayne's longest shutout minute sequence at 145:13.
Saturday, Feb. 26, Evansville 5 at Fort Wayne 3
The Komets' win string was snapped at four games and it was the first Fort Wayne home defeat in five games. P.C. Drouin dished his 300th Fort Wayne career assist and extended his point-scoring streak to four games (2g, 3a). Colin Chaulk moved his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist (2g, 5a). Nick Boucher suffered his first loss in the Fort Wayne net in four games.
Sunday, Feb. 27, at Dayton 8 Fort Wayne 0
The Komets' posted their largest margin of defeat in a game this season and suffered the fourth shutout against. It was the first time in seven games the Komets were handed a loss by the Gems. Fort Wayne's penalty kill streak stopped at 26. The Komets were scoreless on the power play for the first time in eight games, since Feb. 12 at Dayton. It was Fort Wayne's last trip to Hara Arena of the season. The Komets, 3-3-1 at Dayton, lead the series 7-5-1. Fort Wayne's Tab Lardner missed on a penalty shot at 17:54 of the third period against Dayton goalie Jeff Jakaitis. The Komets are scoreless on four penalty shots this season.

Wednesday, March 2, Evansville IceMen (17-29-8, 54 points) at Fort Wayne Komets (25-22-5, 55 points), 7:30pm ET
The Komets will host the IceMen in the second of three straight Evansville visits. The Komets dropped a 5-3 decision in the first of a triple home stand against Evansville last Saturday. The IceMen hope to get out of the cellar of the Turner Conference where they enter the week trailing eighth place Dayton by eight points in the race for a spot in the playoffs. Recently acquired veteran left wing Jeff Christian has points in each of his first three games with Evansville (3 goals, 3 assists). The IceMen are coming off a 2-1 home loss against Quad City Sunday night. Evansville's victory at Fort Wayne last Saturday night is their only win in the last nine games.
Friday, March 4, Fort Wayne Komets at Bloomington PrairieThunder (31-16-5, 67 points), 8:05pm ET
The Komets will make their fourth of five trips to Bloomington Friday where they are 2-1-0 in three visits. Fort Wayne trails the season series 3-4-0. The PrairieThunder have already clinched a playoff berth and trail first-place Rapid City by three points with 14 games remaining. Skater Jason Dale leads Bloomington with 31 assists and 47 points appearing in all 52 games. The PrairieThunder are this week idle until the Komets visit Friday.
Saturday, March 5, Fort Wayne Komets at Evansville IceMen, 8:35pm ET
The Komets play the first of a home-and-home series against the IceMen Saturday night at Swonder Ice Arena in Evansville. The IceMen will host Dayton Friday before facing the Komets again Saturday. It's the first of three straight Saturday road games for the Komets who are 7-3-0 when making Saturday night visits.
Sunday, March 6, Evansville IceMen at Fort Wayne Komets, 5pm ET
The Komets will skate the back-end of the home-and-home series against Evansville Sunday at the Memorial Coliseum. It's the fourth time in six games the Komets have faced Evansville and the third straight Fort Wayne home meeting against the IceMen. Sunday's visit will be the seventh and last trip to Fort Wayne by Evansville this season

JERSEY AUCTION YIELDS $12,149 FOR INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD RELIEF FUND
Saturday night, Feb. 26 the Komets auctioned game-worn patriotic jerseys on Indiana National Guard Night. 18 jerseys were sold in auction during the game between the Komets and Evansville IceMen.
Mathieu Curadeau's number 94 snared the top bid at $850. Kaleigh Schrock's number 79 and Craig Cescon's number 72 collected $800 each. A total of $12,149 was raised and will be donated to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund.
