Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release


THE SKINNY: The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (21-27-6) travel to Loveland, Colorado for the first time since January 23 of 2008 to face the Colorado Eagles this weekend. The Bees are 0-5-0 all-time at the Budweiser Events Center and are 1-7-2 against the Eagles in the history of the franchise with the Bees victory coming in the two sides most recent meeting, Jan. 9, 2010 at the State Farm Arena.

The Bees are coming off a three-point weekend in which they captured the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup with their 3-2 victory over the Laredo Bucks on Saturday night. The Cup was awarded to the team with the most points against the other, with the Bees winning by a 20-17 mark.

The Bees scored three first period goals on Saturday night as Tyler Lehrke extended his scoring streak to two, Aaron Lee scored shorthanded, and Aaron Lewicki scored the game winning goal while the Bees were on the power-play. Juliano Pagliero made 23 saves in net including keeping the Bucks off the board for the final 55:18 of the game.

BEES NEED TO KNOW: . The Bees captured the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup over rival Laredo with their 3-2 victory on Feb. 26. For the season the Bees finished with a 9-5-2 record against the Bucks, winning the cup with a 20-17 edge.

. There are plenty of Bees among the CHL league leaders; Aaron Lewicki leads all rookies in goals, assists and points while Darcy Campbell leads defensemen in points and assists. Juliano Pagliero is second in minutes played and saves among goalies.

. Going streaking The Bees have been a streaky team through 2010 and 2011 with winning streaks of five and three this season. In February the Bees tied a season high six-game point earning streak from Feb. 5 to Feb. 18.

. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, now owns the Killer Bees all-time record for shorthanded goals with nine, scoring two this season most recently Feb. 11.

. The 2011 CHL Trade deadline has passed and prior to the deadline the Bees made three trades;

Jan. 15- Sean Muncy to Missouri for Dominic D'Amour

Jan. 17- Jake Obermeyer to Evansville for Bo Cheesman

Feb. 01- Future considerations to Quad City for Jerad Kaufmann
