Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights walked off with a thrilling 6-5 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 10 innings on Wednesday night from Truist Field in game two of the six-game series.
Heading into the bottom of the 10th inning, the Knights trailed the Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 5-4 after a wild pitch from Charlotte LHP Brandon Finnegan (1-2, 6.92) in the top of the 10th inning. Jacksonville catcher Lorenzo Quintana scored the go-ahead run on the wild pitch to break a 4-4 tie and give the 'Shrimp a 5-4 lead.
Down by a run in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Knights battled back in the final frame to load the bases against Jumbo Shrimp RHP Jeff Brigham (3-2, 3.90). After walking the first two batters in the inning to load the bases, Brigham allowed the game-winning runs to score when Yolbert Sánchez lined a ball through the legs of Jacksonville second Bryson Brigman, who was charged with an error. Center fielder Adam Haseley and pinch-runner Laz Rivera scored the final two runs of the game to propel the Knights to a remarkable walk-off win.
LHP John Parke started the game and allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings. He did not factor in the decision. The Charlotte bullpen was strong on the night, allowing just two runs over the final five innings. Finnegan earned the win for Charlotte in the game.
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson who is currently on Chicago's 10-day injured list with a strained right groin, started for the Knights at shortstop on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 on the night. Anderson began the rehab stint on Tuesday night and went 2-for-4 in his first game with the Knights.
Charlotte designated hitter Gavin Sheets went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in his second game back from Chicago.
The Knights will continue the six-game-series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) from Truist Field on Thursday night. First pitch from Uptown Charlotte is set for 7:04 p.m. on Thursday. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
