Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights split Friday's doubleheader against the Louisville Bats from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights lost game one by a score of 8-0 and won game two by a score of 4-3. The two teams are now tied in the series, 2-2.
In game two of Friday's doubleheader, catcher Sebastián Rivero gave the Knights a lead they would not relinquish. After center fielder Adam Haseley drove in Charlotte's first run of the game on an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning, Rivero played the hero as his hit proved to be the game-winner.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, Rivero ripped a three-run double to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. For Rivero, it was his only hit of the game, but it was the most important hit of game two for the Knights as it led the club to split the doubleheader.
Charlotte reliever Bryan Shaw earned his fourth save of the season even after a rain delay halted the top of the seventh inning for over 30 minutes. Shaw walked one batter and fanned one batter in a scoreless inning of work. RHP Nick Padilla (2-0, 4.68) earned the win after he pitched two shutout innings in relief.
In the first game of Friday's twin bill, LHP John Parke (1-4, 7.00) started for the Knights and was charged with the loss after he allowed three runs on four hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The Knights managed just three hits in game one and right fielder Oscar Colás had two of the three hits.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Louisville Bats (Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) from Truist Field on Saturday night. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 7:04 p.m. from Uptown Charlotte.
Fans can also watch Saturday's game live on MiLB.tv or the Bally Live app. As with all Saturday home games, fans can also watch the game live on My12 WMYT starting at 7:00 p.m. with Dick Cooke joining Matt and Mike in the booth.
