
Syracuse Tops Durham 5-3

DURHAM, NC - Bulls designated hitter Blake Hunt doubled to drive in two runs and center fielder Greg Jones homered, while Mets shortstop Danny Mendick drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, in their 5-2 victory over Durham on Friday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Mets struck first when CF Rafael Ortega drove in a run before Hunt knocked a two-run RBI double to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead. Syracuse answered in the sixth thanks to Mendick's three-run homer before his RBI double. Jones smashed a homer in the ninth, bringing the final score 5-3.
Syracuse starter Joey Lucchesi (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 SO) earned the victory, while Durham righty Jacob Lopez (4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are slated to continue their series on Saturday night in a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 5:30pm. Both games will be seven innings, with game two set to begin 30 minutes after the end of game one. RHP Evan McKendry is anticipated to get the nod for Durham and is scheduled to be opposed by RHP Jose Butto. Starters for game two are to be announced.
