Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Worcester, MA - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (36-35) saw multiple leads trimmed down to one run but never fully buckled, holding on for a one-run win, 7-6, over the Worcester Red Sox (37-36) on Friday night at Polar Park.
After a scoreless first two innings, the IronPigs got to work in the third. Weston Wilson started the scoring with an RBI double that saw another run score on the play thanks to a fielding error. Simon Muzziotti followed with a two-run
homer, his fourth of the year.
The WooSox clawed back to make it a one-run game with Ronaldo Hernandez driving in a run with a base hit in the last of the third and Narcisco Crook belting a two-run homer in the fourth.
Dustin Peterson rocked a solo homer, his ninth of the year, to lead off the fifth for the IronPigs. Later in the same frame, Muzziotti roped an RBI single to drive in his third run of the game, making it 6-3.
In the sixth, Peterson came through with a two-out RBI single to score Scott Kingery, extending the IronPigs lead to 7-3.
The WooSox threatened to take their first lead of the game in the seventh. Stephen Scott drove in two with a two-out
base hit to trim it to a 7-5 game, but Jeremy Walker got a fly out to end the inning and strand the bases loaded.
In the eighth, Hernandez drove in another run with a sacrirfice fly to make it a one-run game, but Jacob Barnes coaxed a popup to leave the tying run at second base.
Andrew Bellatti (S, 2) secured the win for the IronPigs with a perfect ninth, striking out one.
Jesus Cruz (2-2) picked the win for the IronPigs, throwing two no-hit innings, walking two while striking out two.
Rio Gomez (0-1) suffered the loss for the WooSox, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks, striking out one in 2.2 innings.
