(MOOSIC, PA) - Los Vejigantes de Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fell 5-3 to the Buffalo Bisons on a Copa de la Diversión night. Copa de la Diversión is an initiative by Minor League Baseball to promote the sport and connect its teams to their Hispanic/Latino communities.

In the top of the second, LJ Talley notched a leadoff home run to vault the Bisons out front 1-0.

Teammate Nathan Lukes hit a solo shot to expand the Buffalo lead to 2-0 in the third.

Spencer Horwitz led off the sixth with a base hit and advanced on a wild pitch. A single from Davis Schneider moved Horwitz to third. Talley lined an RBI single to bring him in, extending the Bisons lead to 3-0.

In the top of the eighth, Schneider and Tally knocked back-to-back base hits. Schneider would score after a fielding error on a base hit from Jordan Luplow making it 4-0. Talley would come around to score on a fielder's choice bringing the score to 5-0 Buffalo.

The RailRiders looked to rally in the bottom half. Michael Hermosillo led off with a base hit and Brandon Lockridge followed that up with a single. Max Burt, in his first game with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of 2023, laced an RBI single to score Hermosillo and put the Vejigantes on the board, trimming the score to 5-1. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Estevan Florial advanced Lockridge and Burt to second and third respectively, and Andrés Chaparro drew a walk to load the bases. An RBI fielder's choice from Jamie Westbrook drove in Lockridge and after eight frames the Bisons led 5-2.

SWB continued the momentum into the ninth, but that's where it ended. Hermosillo launched a solo shot to cut the deficit to 5-3, still in favor of Buffalo.

Clayton Beeter (L, 0-1) made his Triple-A debut for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre going 5.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Aaron McGarity tossed two innings allowing two runs on four hits with one fanned. DJ Snelten pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless ball with a strikeout.

Zach Thompson (W, 4-4) got the start for Buffalo tossing five scoreless innings with just a hit allowed and four strikeouts. Thomas Hatch tallied a clean frame. Yosver Zulueta worked 1.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits. Matt Peacock (S, 2) pitched 1.2 innings letting up the solo homer.

Righty Mitch Spence is scheduled to start for Scranton/Wilkes Barre with first pitch slated for 6:05 PM.
