South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC -Defenseman Nate Kiser became the all-time Stingrays penalty minutes leader Tuesday night as the South Stingrays Carolina (35-28-2-3) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (41-22-3-1) 3-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum. Kiser (1,129 career Stingrays PIM) passed Stingrays Hall of Famer Bret Marietti midway through the second period when he dropped the gloves with Road Warriors defenseman T.J. Reynolds.
Stingrays forward Rob Ricci kicked off the scoring at 8:53 of the opening period slipping a shot under the blocker of Road Warriors goaltender Chris Beckcford-Tseu from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Defenseman Joe Finely earned the lone assist.
The Road Warriors responded with two power-goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Forward Jimmy Kilpatrick tied the contest at 8:08 from forwards Justin Bowers and Andrew Rowe. Moments later, forward Brandon Wong tapped in a rebound over the pad of Stingrays netminder Todd Ford at 15:18. Forwards Shane Harper and Brendan Connolly recorded assists.
Bowers sealed the victory for the Road Warriors late in the third period backhanding a shot between the legs of Ford at 16:31 from forwards Matt Schepke and Kilpatrick.
Ford, in his first game back since January 17, suffered the loss stopping 24 of 27 Road Warriors shots. Beckford-Tseu grabbed the victory blocking 20 of 21 Stingrays opportunities. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-3 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 2-for-4.
